Experience Overview
With two full weeks, this itinerary covers the whole northern safari circuit without rushing. Tarangire and Lake Manyara come first, with elephants, baobabs and the Rift Valley escarpment, followed by three days in the Serengeti – enough time to follow the wildlife across different parts of the park – and two days around Ngorongoro, including a full game drive on the crater floor.
You then fly to Zanzibar for four nights. A Stone Town walking tour and a spice farm visit show the island's Swahili and Arab trading history, and the rest of the time is yours on the beach before you fly home.

Itinerary

Day 1 · Arusha
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Your guide meets you for a short briefing on the two weeks ahead.
Day 2 · Tarangire National Park
Drive to Tarangire National Park for your first game drive: elephant herds along the Tarangire River, giant baobabs, lions, giraffes and a huge variety of birds. Overnight at a lodge near the park.
Day 3 · Lake Manyara National Park
Game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, from the groundwater forest with its baboon troops and blue monkeys to the hippo pool and the lake shore, often pink with flamingos. Overnight in Karatu or Mto wa Mbu.
Day 4 · Serengeti National Park
Cross the Ngorongoro highlands and descend onto the Serengeti plains, with a game drive on the way to your camp in the central Serengeti.
Day 5 · Serengeti National Park
A full day exploring the Seronera valley, the Serengeti's most reliable area for big cats, with its rivers, hippo pools and granite kopjes where lions rest in the heat of the day.
Day 6 · Serengeti National Park
A third day in the Serengeti lets your guide go further afield, following the migration herds when they are within reach or looking for cheetahs on the open short-grass plains. Optional sunrise balloon flight at extra cost.
Day 7 · Ngorongoro Crater
A morning game drive on your way out of the Serengeti, stopping at Olduvai Gorge, then climb to the Ngorongoro crater rim for the night, with views over the caldera at sunset.
Day 8 · Ngorongoro Crater
Descend into the crater for a game drive among lions, elephants, buffalo, hyenas and flamingos, with a good chance of black rhino. Picnic lunch on the crater floor before driving out to Karatu for the night.
Day 9 · Arusha
A relaxed morning, then drive back to Arusha with time for the Maasai market or a coffee farm visit before your last night on the mainland.
Day 10 · Zanzibar
Fly from Arusha to Zanzibar (about 1 hour 20 minutes) and transfer to your beach hotel for a first afternoon by the Indian Ocean.
Day 11 · Stone Town
A guided tour of Stone Town's UNESCO-listed streets: the Old Fort, the House of Wonders, the former slave market, Darajani market and the waterfront, before returning to the coast.
Day 12 · Zanzibar
A spice farm tour in the island's interior, tasting cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and fresh fruit, followed by an afternoon at the beach.
Day 13 · Zanzibar
A free day to swim, snorkel or rest. Your hotel can arrange optional trips such as a dhow sail to Mnemba Atoll or a dolphin excursion.
Day 14 · Departure
Breakfast by the sea, then transfer to Zanzibar's international airport for your flight home.
