Experience Overview
Safaris with children work best when the days are varied and the drives are not too long, and this itinerary is built that way. Two days in Tarangire give plenty of time with elephants – usually the favourite animal of younger travellers – and include a cultural walk through the village of Mto wa Mbu, where you visit banana farms and local artists.
From there you move to the Ngorongoro highlands for a full day on the crater floor, where animals are easy to spot, and a visit to a Maasai homestead, before a final day in the Serengeti. Accommodation is in comfortable, good-value lodges and tented camps with family rooms where available, and your guide adapts the pace to your children.

Itinerary
These are sample itineraries designed to inspire your journey. Each trip can be fully customized to match your travel style, preferences, and schedule. Use them as a starting point to craft your perfect safari experience.
Day 1 · Arusha
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where your guide meets you and drives you to your hotel in Arusha. The rest of the day is free to rest after the flight and meet your guide for a family briefing.
Day 2 · Tarangire National Park
Drive two hours to Tarangire National Park for your first game drive, looking for elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions and monkeys among the baobab trees, with a picnic lunch. Overnight at a lodge near the park.
Day 3 · Tarangire and Mto wa Mbu
A morning game drive in Tarangire, when the animals are most active, then drive to Mto wa Mbu for a guided village walk through banana and rice farms, local craft workshops and a taste of banana beer or local food. Continue to Karatu for the night.
Day 4 · Ngorongoro Crater
Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a full game drive on the crater floor, where lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, hippos and flamingos are easy for children to spot, and there is a chance of black rhino. Picnic lunch by the hippo pool, then back to Karatu.
Day 5 · Ngorongoro and a Maasai Village
Cross the Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards the Serengeti, stopping at a Maasai homestead to see traditional houses, dances and cattle herding, and at Olduvai Gorge. Enter the Serengeti in the afternoon and overnight at a camp in the park.
Day 6 · Serengeti National Park
A day of game drives in the central Serengeti, looking for lions, cheetahs and leopards and, in season, the migration herds, with breaks at camp so the day never feels too long for children.
Day 7 · Arusha
A final morning game drive, then drive back through the Ngorongoro highlands to Arusha, arriving in the evening for your hotel or onward flight.
