Experience Overview
This itinerary covers the four highlights of the northern circuit at a comfortable pace, with the emphasis on where you stay. Each night is spent in a lodge or tented camp chosen for its setting and service – a camp in the heart of the Serengeti where you hear lions at night, a lodge above the Rift Valley escarpment, and a room on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater with views over the caldera at sunrise.
By day you explore with your own guide and 4x4 vehicle: Tarangire's elephants, Lake Manyara's forest and flamingos, two days in the Serengeti following the big cats and the migration, and a morning on the crater floor, one of the best places in Africa to see black rhino.

Itinerary

Day 1 · Tarangire National Park
Pick-up from your Arusha hotel or Kilimanjaro airport and drive two hours to Tarangire National Park. Afternoon game drive among elephant herds and baobabs along the Tarangire River, then check into your luxury lodge overlooking the park.
Day 2 · Lake Manyara National Park
A morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, from the groundwater forest with its baboons and blue monkeys to the flamingo-lined lake shore. Afternoon at leisure at your lodge on the edge of the Rift Valley escarpment.
Day 3 · Serengeti National Park
Cross the Ngorongoro highlands and descend onto the Serengeti plains, game driving to your luxury tented camp in the central Serengeti, where dinner is served under the stars.
Day 4 · Serengeti National Park
A full day in the Serengeti with your private guide, following lions, leopards and cheetahs in the Seronera valley or the migration herds in season, with a picnic lunch on the plains. Optional sunrise hot-air balloon flight with champagne breakfast.
Day 5 · Ngorongoro Crater
A last morning game drive in the Serengeti, then drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and check into your lodge on the crater rim, with the afternoon free to take in the view over the caldera.
Day 6 · Ngorongoro Crater and Departure
Descend at first light to the crater floor for a game drive among lions, elephants, buffalo and black rhino, with breakfast or a picnic by the hippo pool. Drive back to Arusha in the afternoon for your onward flight or hotel.
